January 20, 2026 10AM

Our meeting on January 20, 2026 will be on the topic of terrariums. We will learn their history, what makes good plants and materials for a terrarium and the value for them in your home.

Below is a summary of our 2024-25 meetings. It was a great year of celebration.

Celebrating our major milestone throughout the year

During the 2024-25 club year, NAGC is celebrating its 90th anniversary. In order to honor our heritage, each meeting will focus on a specific decade of our history.
The program subject is specific to trends and topics pertinent to garden clubs in the featured decade. To further emphasize the theme, members and guests are invited to dress appropriately for the decade. Hospitality will also feature snacks that were popular during that decade.

Sept 17, 2024 (All decade kickoff) Members only Visit to the Nimitz Library at the US Naval Academy where past club scrapbooks and memorabilia will be on display from the archives. Club material is maintained by the USNA library. Also on display will be unique horticultural resources in the Academy’s collection. Dr. Bryan, Head of Special Collections and Archives, will present the program.
Oct 15, 2024 (1950&1960) Members and guests
Flower Power: Art in Bloom – All members are challenged to bring a floral interpretation inspired by artwork, album covers, fabric from the decade. Members will display their design along with the inspiring element
Nov 19, 2024 (2010) Members and guests Conservation and Preservation of the Chesapeake Bay will be showcased via a visit to the art and photography studio of Jay Fleming. His works support the survival of the Bay through photography.
Dec 10, 2024 (all decades) Members and invited guests Luncheon celebrating the 90th anniversary and the holidays. Video presentations, club and general trivia, holiday music, and lots of reminiscing will be featured along with a wonderful meal.
Jan 21, 2025 (1990/2000) Members and guests Technology in Landscape Design: Elizabeth Elliot owner of Himmel Landscape will share how the use of technology has evolved to be an integral part of landscaping and gardening.
Feb 18, 2025 (1940) Members and guests Victory Gardens: Dr. Rose Hayden-Smith will discuss the Victory Garden movement and its pivotal role in food security and community resilience and their impact on our nation
Mar 18, 2025 (1930) Members and guests Hats and the Millinery industry: Elizabeth Reed author of Mrs. Musterman, the Milliner of Main St. will discuss the history of the millinery industry through this story about her grandmother who operated a milliner’s shop on Main St in Annapolis where our past members, no doubt, purchased their stylish hats. Our scrapbooks provide evidence of the many styles of hats worn by our members over the years.
Apr 15, 2025 (1970) Members and guests Colleen Webster, professor Harford Community College will interpret the life and legacy of Rachel Carson and the impact she had on the environment including the local area and Chesapeake Bay
May 6, 2025 (1980) Members only Remarks from VADM Yvette Davids – current superintendent of USNA and a presentation by Sue Betz, past NAGC club president and horticulturist of the USNA. New officers for the 2025-2026 club year will be installed at this meeting.
